Nationals Park hosts Congressional Bank Baseball Classic

Though the Nationals are out of town, fans can still enjoy the national pastime at Nationals Park this Sunday. The annual Congressional Bank Baseball Classic begins at 9 a.m. and lasts throughout the entire day. The event showcases the Districts' best high school teams and players as they compete at Nationals Park. Schools set to participate in the tournament include the Maret School, Sidwell Friends, Cardozo High School and Woodrow Wilson High School. Additionally, at 2 p.m., Washington, D.C., Mayor Vincent Gray, City Council members and stars of WPGC 95.5 FM will take on representatives of the Diamond Dream Foundation and the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball team in a special celebrity softball game. The Diamond Dream Foundation will also be presenting Satchel Paige/Senators Little League Baseball organization with a $5,000 donation during a special on-field ceremony. At 3:30 pm, players from the best high school baseball teams in the District will face off in the Congressional Bank All-Star Game. All-Star players will come from many of the District's schools including St. Albans, St. Anselms, Edmund Burke, Archbishop Carroll, Field School, Sidwell Friends, Georgetown Day School, Gonzaga, St. Johns, Maret, Anacostia, Ballou, Bell, Cardozo, Coolidge, Dunbar, Eastern, McKinley Tech, Phelps, Roosevelt, School Without Walls, Spingarn, Woodrow Wilson, and HD Woodson. The Championship game between winners from the previous rounds will begin around 6:30 p.m. Admission and parking are free and seating is general admission. All proceeds from the day-long event will benefit DC-based youth baseball and softball programs in underprivileged communities.
