Nationals Reinstate Jason Marquis from DL

Nationals place Ross Detwiler on the 15-day DL The Washington Nationals today returned right-handed pitcher Jason Marquis from a rehab assignment and reinstated him from the 60-Day Disabled List. The Nationals also placed left-handed pitcher Ross Detwiler on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to August 6, with a right hip strain. Nationals Senior Vice President & General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements. Marquis will get the starting nod in Washington's series finale this afternoon at Dodger Stadium. Marquis last pitched for the Nationals on April 18 vs. Milwaukee. Nearly a month after that start, on May 14, Marquis had bone chips removed from his right elbow in a procedure performed by Dr. Timothy Kremchek in Cincinnati, OH. Marquis went 0-0 with a 4.15 ERA (8 ER/17.1 IP) during a four-start rehab assignment with Syracuse (two starts), Harrisburg (one) and the GCL Nationals (one). The 31 year-old Marquis walked just four and fanned 18 in 17.1 rehab innings. He is 94-86 with a 4.57 ERA in 293 big league games/234 starts spanning 11 seasons, including 0-3 with a 20.52 ERA in a trio of April starts for Washington. Detwiler, 24, is 0-2 with a 3.46 ERA in three starts for the Nationals this season.
