Nats Caravan Stop at Ben's Chili Bowl

On Thursday, the caravan began the day at historic Ben's Chili Bowl in Washington D.C. Stan Kasten and Mike Rizzo joined the crew for a quick lunch. Bens1.jpg"It's a pretty cool historic place," said Danny Espinosa, making his first visit to the famed eatery. "We had a good time." Espinosa was impressed by the many photographs of celebrity visitors including President Obama. After ordering a variety of items, the players mingled with the guests, handed out autographed cards and took pictures with the staff. It was packed for the lunchtime rush and the players received a warm welcome from the community. Springfield native Ryan Speier had never heard of Ben's, but he really enjoyed the experience. "That was great. I hadn't been [there before], which is tragic," he said. Before leaving, the players were able to meet with the Ali family, who started the popular restaurant in 1958. They lost their beloved Ben in October of last year, but the tradition of good food and a welcoming, lively atmosphere carries on. "The people were real nice. It was like eating in somebody's home," Speier said. More pictures from Ben's will be available on our MASN Facebook page later today!
