Yankees return Brad Meyers to Nats (updated)

The Yankees have returned right-handed pitcher Brad Meyers to the Nationals, according to reports out of New York. The Nats lost Meyers, 27, to the Yankees in the Rule 5 draft last winter. At that time, Meyers was expected to battle for a long-relief job in the Yankees' bullpen during spring training, but he spent nearly the entire season on the disabled list because of a shoulder injury suffered during a weight lifting session over the winter. Meyers appeared in just one professional game this season, allowing eight runs in 1 2/3 innings for the Yankees' high Single-A affiliate in Tampa. If he's healthy in 2013, Meyers could add depth to the rotation at Triple-A. He put up a strong 2011 campaign, posting a 3.18 ERA over 25 games (24 starts) spanning three levels. The righty finished the 2011 season at Triple-A Syracuse, going 6-5 with a 3.48 ERA in 17 games. Meyers was named the Nationals' Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2009. Update: The Nats have announced that Meyers has been assigned to Triple-A Syracuse.
