A-Rod's three-run homer in the 9th sinks the Birds, 4-3
Down to their last out and last strike tonight, New York's Alex Rodriguez hit a three-run homer to left off Koji Uehara to give the Yankees a stunning, 4-3 comeback win over the Orioles tonight in front of 32,874 at Camden Yards.
The O's took a 3-1 lead to the 9th, but Koji gave up singles to Jorge Posada and Curtis Granderson.
He faced A-Rod with two on and out and just missed on an inside fastball on the 1-2 count. The next pitch sailed over the left field fence to give the Yankees the lead on A-Rod's second homer of the night.
It's his 57th career multi-homer game.
His blast wasted another night of excellent O's starting pitching. After he gave up A-Rod's first homer in a 34-pitch second inning, Kevin Millwood didn't look long for this game. But the right-hander settled down and needed just 44 pitches over the next four frames. Robert Andino's line drive homer to left in the 7th gave the O's the 3-1 edge. Jim Johnson pitched out of a two on, one out jam in the 8th before A-Rod grabbed the headlines in the top of the 9th and Mariano Rivera got the save in the last of the inning.
