Bryce Harper NJCAA Player of the Week

Dan Cabrera from College of Southern Nevada passes along that Bryce is the Player of the Week in the NJCAA: Harper had his best weekend of the season to date last week in Price, Utah, going 7-for-14 with seven runs, four homers, eight RBIs and four walks. He hit three of his four home runs on Saturday, including two in the 5th inning of Game 1 -- the first Coyote ever to hit two home runs in the same inning. CSN Coach Tim Chambers told me the Coyotes hit 15 homers all of last season and they had hit 18 before last weekend. Then they smacked 15 in one 4 game set. That's 33 as a team, 12 HRs are from Mr. Harper. Harper raised his season batting average to .431 with 13 doubles, 12 home runs and 35 RBIs to go along with it. Also, the Coyotes (27-5) moved up to No. 2 in this week's NJCAA / Perfect Game USA Top 25 JUCO National Baseball Poll. Connors State College (Okla.) remains in the top spot with a 29-2 record. ----------------------- Nationals starting pitcher Craig Stammen's Dayton Flyers go for a banner tonight when they take on #24 North Carolina for the NIT Championship from the World's Most Famous Arena in New York City. I say Dayton wins as long as their guards don't shoot too much. ------------------------ I like the Mike Rizzo signings of veteran catchers in Ivan Rodriguez and Chris Coste. I am very worried about Jesus Flores and his continuing rehabilitation from his shoulder injury. Shoulder injuries are never good, especially in a catcher. I fear this could be a season long problem if he can't throw without pain. The signing of Coste, who hit .272 last year, will help shore up Pudge and Wil Nieves at that spot and get them some rest after 31 games in the spring.
