Davis pitches a gem as Rays top O's

Tampa right hander Wade Davis pitched a four-hit shutout tonight, in just his third Major League start, as the Rays beat the Orioles 3-0, in front of 12, 436 at Camden Yards. This came just days after Davis gave up eight runs in 2 2/3 in his last start vs. Boston. The 24-year-old walked two, fanned ten and threw 124 pitches in picking up his first Major League win. The O's were blanked for the 9th time on the season. The O's best chance to break through vs. Davis came in the first inning when they loaded the bases with none out. But Nick Markakis grounded into a force at home, Melvin Mora struck out and Luke Scott lined to right. Tampa got its first run in the third. O's left fielder Nolan Reimold dove for Jason Barlett's liner to left and it got behind him for a two-out triple. Carl Crawford's groundball single to center made it 1-0. Ben Zobrist doubled to lead off the fourth and later scored on a Gabe Kapler sac bunt for 2-0 Rays' edge. Evan Longoria's RBI single in the 9th made it a 3-0 lead. Mark Hendrickson took the loss. Making his first start since May 12th he allowed two runs and five hits over 3 1/3 innings. O's manager Dave Trembley was ejected in the top of the 7th by plate umpire Ron Kulpa for arguing balls and strikes. With the win, Tampa gains a split of this four-game series and evens the season series, 7-7 with the O's. The O's host Boston for three games over the weekend beginning at 7:05 p.m. Friday when Jeremy Guthrie (10-14, 5.06) faces Clay Buchholz (5-3, 3.66). TB......3-10-0 Balt.....0-4-0
