Fedde says he has benefited from throwing sessions with Strasburg

Right-hander Erick Fedde reports he has been throwing for about one week. He has been on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation since July 5. Fedde expected to throw from 115 feet Thursday prior to the Nats' 10-4 win over the Reds.

Fedde detailed his pitching progression as he looks to get back to starting.

"I have been playing catch with Strasburg, so that's been fun, too. Hopefully, in the next week or so I'll be back on the mound."

"Eventually, I think we will get up to about 150 feet just to make sure that we can really put some 'umph' into it. It's usually 25 to 30 throws.

"Yeah, if long toss goes really well and everything is clean then I can start some bullpens. Start building myself back up to the innings. Especially as a starter, getting back to five innings is important."

Fedde says he has valued the time he has gotten to spend with Strasburg, despite both being on the disabled list at the same time. He believes that these throwing sessions have been beneficial for both hurlers. Strasburg has been on the DL since July 22 with cervical nerve impingement.

"Both of us dealing with some issues," Fedde said. "Just kind of cleaning up our mechanics together. It's nice to play catch with him every day. He gives me a lot of feedback.

"We are working on things to keep everything consistent. That's what we think both of our issues are. Once we get a little fatigued maybe just being a little inconsistent. With that cleaned up and maybe we can work on it now while we have a lot of time."
