Orioles Place OF/DH Luke Scott on 15-Day Disabled List; Recall 3B Josh Bell from Triple-A Norfolk

The Orioles today announced that they have placed OF/DH Luke Scott on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain. Scott was injured running the bases after hitting a home run in the 7th inning of last night's win over the Oakland A's. The club has recalled 3B Josh Bell from Triple-A Norfolk to take Scott's place on the roster. Bell will be making his major league debut. Scott has batted .274 (61-223) with 12 home runs and 30 RBI in 66 games for the Orioles this season. He ranks 13th in the American League in slugging percentage (.520) and is 20th in on-base plus slugging (.868). Scott has hit .326 over his last 42 games since May 8 to raise his average from .177 to .274. Bell batted .266 (76-286) with 24 doubles, 10 home runs and 44 RBI in 74 games for the Tides. In 24 games in June, he hit .272 (25-92) with nine doubles, four home runs, 19 RBI and a .500 slugging percentage. Bell's 24 doubles are second-most in the International League and tied for 12th-most in all of minor league baseball. He is tied for 10th in the IL in home runs. A fourth-round selection by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2005 First Year Player Draft, Bell was acquired by the Orioles along with RHP Steve Johnson in exchange for LHP George Sherrill on July 30, 2009. Bell will wear uniform #25.
