Rendon doubles in rehab game for Potomac

Anthony Rendon went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and one RBI in his first rehab assignment as he recovers from a left toe injury. High Single-A Potomac dropped Wilmington 12-2.

Juan Soto went 3-for-5 with two homers, three runs and a season-high five RBIs. Rendon batted third and Soto in the cleanup spot. Telmito Agustin hit his third homer of the season.

He last played for Potomac in 2015, six games in all. A first round selection for the Nats in 2011, Rendon made his first appearance in the system in 2012 for the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Nationals.

* The last couple of games the Nats have not been able to complete the 4-6-3 double play between Howie Kendrick and Trea Turner as seamlessly as they might have liked.

Two of the plays were reviewed on video Wednesday in the first inning as Pittsburgh batted against Stephen Strasburg. One call was overturned. Then on Thursday, the Nats could not turn the double play but still managed to record the first out and settle for a fielder's choice.

Turner said he is not concerned about the tempo of the 4-6-3 and is more concerned about at least getting one out on the play.

"I think the ball (Gregory) Polanco hit wasn't hit that hard," Turner reasoned. "We also wanted to make sure of one, getting that out. It's more important than turning the double play, I feel like in our eyes at that time.

"So, sure we'd love to turn more but I think it's just a small sample size right now, and at the end of the year you can look at it and determine whatever you want. But some of the balls we've had haven't been hit hard and guys have been running pretty good. It's just baseball."
