The Orioles will announce a new scholarship program tonight at Camden Yards called "Swings for Scholars".
The organization is partnering with Legg Mason Global Asset Management to launch the scholarship program designed to provide full community college scholarships to qualified grads of Baltimore City Schools.
Each time O's outfielder Nick Markakis gets a hit during the 2010 season, Legg Mason Charitable Foundation Inc. will make a $200 contribution to the Swings for Scholars...

Today's Garrett Atkins Q&A provided a first look preview of a summer of O's events to come.
Atkins arrived at the ESPN Zone shortly before noon and sat down center stage with the event's host, MASN O's broadcaster Jim Hunter.
"So Roch Kubatko tells me you're the most talkative guy in the clubhouse, and you're going to make my job easy for me today," Jim joked to start off the afternoon.
Atkins admitted that Roch might have been exaggerating a bit, but the first-baseman seemed...
I'm headed to the ESPN Zone in Baltimore's Inner Harbor before too long for the first Orioles Q&A of the summer. If you can't make it out to meet Garrett Atkins from noon to 1:00 p.m., check back here later today for a few highlights and photos.
Atkins will be answering questions from an O's broadcaster, as well as from fans, so this afternoon will be a chance to get to know the new Oriole a little better (and win some prizes if you know your Orioles trivia!). Atkins will also stick around...
A good week for O's and Nats fans.
As fans flocked to the stadiums to welcome back the baseball season, both teams set records for stadium attendance.
Both teams also earned much-improved television ratings over the first week of the 2010 season.
Nielsen ratings for the Nationals opener April 3, were three times greater than in 2009, despite the fact it was a day game rather than in prime time. The Nationals' 2009 opener against the Florida Marlins earned a 0.5 rating game, while...

It's the baseball in Red Porch sign! Good try, folks!
On Sunday, the Nationals hosted the Children's National Medical Center for the third annual Children's Day at Nationals Park. The event honors the Nationals' partnership with Children's Hospital and the team's ongoing commitment to building a pediatric diabetes care complex.
Children who receive treatment at the facility enjoyed pre-game activities, delivered the ceremonial first pitch and line-up card, took the field for the "starting 9" and announced "play ball." Special tickets...
A versatile infielder and veteran presence, Ronnie Belliard played an important role during three tough seasons in Washington.
Traded to the Dodgers in late August 2009, Belliard found himself moving cross-country from a team pushing toward a 100 loss season to a team destined for postseason play. Added as a utilityman and bat on the bench, Belliard impressed the Dodgers quickly with his hot hitting and ended the season as an everyday player.
This April, Belliard continues to impress. The...
I have always been impressed with professional athletes who go out of their way to give back to the community. It's one thing to have a charitable foundation, but it's special when the athletes are out in the community in person, especially with events and causes that benefit children.
On the Orioles first off day of the season I spent the evening at the Harford County Boys & Girls club annual fund raising dinner. My wife Bonnie and I were invited to attend and I was asked to emcee the...

Last night, Jordan Zimmermann made his Major League debut and Joel Hanrahan recorded his first save of the season in front of just a few dedicated fans. If you were watching on MASN or listening to the radio, you probably saw a few dozen people gathered near the two dugouts. You may have been thinking, "those people are crazy." And, well, we probably were.
But there is perhaps nothing better than winning a game after a long rain delay. The crowds clear out and everyone moves in close...
Leave early:
While taking the Metro to Thursday's game provided a nice discount on tickets, taking the Metro this weekend might take some extra time. Fans are encouraged to add at least 60 minutes to their travel time for all weekend games against the Dodgers.
Metro will be conducting weekend track maintenance on the Green, Blue, Orange and Red Lines. That work will likely cause delays for fans trying to get to Nationals Park.
Visit wmata.com to check delays and...
After last week's image stumped quite a few of you, I won't say this week's 'Where in the Yard?' is easy, but I hope you'll have a better time identifying this week's picture from from the Yard.
The many of you who routinely prove how well you know your O's already know how it's done. But if you're joining us for the first time, take a look at the photo below and see if you can figure out what we're looking at and where it's located in or around Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Submit...
Don't forget that new Orioles 1B Garrett Atkins will be the first in the hot seat for a Q&A at the ESPN Zone coming up soon on Wednesday, April 28 from noon to 1:00 p.m.

On Thursday, the Nationals will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day during an afternoon game against the Rockies. The team will be raising awareness about environmental issues and highlighting the green features at Nationals Park, America's first green ballpark.
Earth Day National Coordinator Denis Hayes and Athletes for Earth Ambassador/ Nordic Combined Olympic Gold Medalist Billy Demong will participate in pre-game activities to commemorate the anniversary.
Earth Day will also...
Let's get a head start, shall we?

B-Rob's B-Log
You really can't miss out on Brian Roberts' latest video blog. B-Rob has serious plans to make this year's round of video blogs better than ever before, and this week's behind the scenes look at the Orioles clubhouse doesn't disappoint.
Click here to watch as B-Rob takes you on a personal tour of the O's stomping grounds when the team is at home - from the dugout to the player's lounge to Brian's (two!) lockers next to...
Recently in the Orioles Buzz we looked at the Full schedule of Orioles events at the ESPN Zone this summer.
The first Oriole Player Q&A is rapidly approaching on Wednesday, April 28, and the O's have announced that new first-baseman Garrett Atkins will be the first to rub elbows with fans at the ESPN Zone.
From noon to 1:00 p.m. fans will have the chance to get to know Atkins during the Q&A session, hosted by an Orioles broadcaster and followed up by an autograph session before things wrap...
