Catching up with Devo

Did it really snow overnight? I'm afraid to look out the window. Actually, I've shoveled the sidewalk and dug out my car three times since the first flakes fell yesterday afternoon. Just trying to keep up with it. Apparently, more snow is in the forecast for Sunday and Monday. I have this strange feeling that I'll be reporting to the Sarasota complex after pitchers and catchers unpack their bags and take their physicals. Maybe I can make the first exhibition game. Will Ohman should keep his teammates entertained. Have you seen this video? I caught up with former Orioles center fielder Mike Devereaux yesterday, and we discussed his new position as Single-A Delmarva's field coach. Devereaux will work with the hitters and offer instruction on outfield defense and baserunning. And he'll do it in the only organization that felt right to him. "My heart is in Baltimore," he said. "I spent seven years there - through the 'Why Not?' season and the opening of Camden Yards, where they'd sell out the stadium every single day. This is definitely where my heart is. And every time I go back to Baltimore, people treat me great. It's always a good feeling to be back there." Devereaux returns here every summer to make appearances and promote the team. He decided to place a few calls and find out whether the Orioles had any openings with their affiliates. "They got back to me and it just went from there," he said. "It was pretty impressive how it all worked out." Devereaux, who previously has been teaching the fine art of hitting to kids ages 5 to 18, said he'd like to manage someday if given the opportunity. "I love the game and I want to stay in it," he said. I decided to ask Devereaux's opinion of Adam Jones. It made sense to seek out another center fielder. "There's no doubt he's one of the premiere ballplayers in the game, and I think he's still maturing," Devereaux said. "He's young, with a bright future ahead of him. He can run, hit, throw. He can cover a lot of ground. He's an all-around player."
