Minor league notes on Henson, Hoes and Mummey

The Bowie Baysox have won back-to-back games at first-place Altoona and won Saturday night there by a 5-3 score. Baysox left fielder Tyler Henson went 3 for 5 with an RBI and continues to kind of quietly have a very solid first full year at Double-A. The 22-year-old, fifth-round pick out of an Oklahoma high school from 2006, is now batting .295-7-36. Henson is fifth in the league in hits and just outside the top ten in the Eastern League in batting average. He is batting .375 in June and has 20 doubles on the year and a slugging percentage of .461. The one stat that needs work is his strikeout total of 77. L.J. Hoes returned to the Frederick Keys lineup Saturday for the first time since May 15 and went 3 for 5 with two doubles and two RBI in a 10-4 romp over Winston-Salem. Hoes missed 37 games due to a bout with mono. But he returned to play in eight games with Aberdeen before rejoining the Keys and in those nine games since his return, he is batting .485-1-7 with 7 doubles. Joe Mahoney hit a three-run homer for the Keys, his 9th and he is now hitting .307. The Keys are now 2-1 in the second half and 43-30 overall on the season. O's fourth-round draft pick, Trent Mummey, played his first pro game last night and went 2 for 4 with two singles and a walk in Aberdeen's 3-2 victory over Brooklyn. Mummey batted leadoff and played center field. Adam Gaylord, the O's 31st-round draft pick this year out of Stanford, had a hit in the win and is batting .345 over his first eight games. Steven Bumbry went 2 for 4 with 4 RBI in Delmarva's 7-4 win over Lakewood. After batting just .234 in 2009 for Aberdeen, Bumbry, the O's 12th-round pick last year out of Virginia Tech, is now hitting .284 for the Shorebirds.
