Offense gets going early again to help Scherzer (Nats win 10-4)

The Nationals made the game difficult for Reds right-hander Tyler Mahle in the first two innings.

With four hits, four walks (one intentional) and a hit batter, the Nats scored six runs on four hits in the second inning.

Mahle lasted only 1 2/3 innings, firing 49 pitches, 30 for strikes.

Trea Turner had a two-run single and Max Scherzer a run-scoring single.

In the third, the Nats scored again on a RBI single by Adam Eaton.

After three innings, the Nats are ahead 7-0.

Update: The Reds got on the board in the fourth inning on Scherzer thanks to a towering two-run shot by Eugenio Suárez over the left-center field wall. It was his 25th homer of the season.

Mid-fourth, the Nats lead 7-2 over the Reds.

Update II: Scherzer goes six innings, allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and strikes out 10 batters. It is the 76th time in his career he has struck out 10 or more batters in a game, and the 12th time this season. His pitch count did get up there: 110 pitches in six innings, 77 for strikes.

After six innings, the Nats lead the Reds 7-2.

Update III: Turner crushed a two-shot in the eighth. He has four RBIs on the night. Bryce Harper belted a solo shot that reached the right-cener field scoreboard concourse second level on a bounce. The homer was his 26th of the season.

After eight innings, the Nats lead 10-2.

Update IV: Jimmy Cordero made his major league debut in the ninth inning. Brandon Dixon singled with two outs. Cordero then walked Billy Hamilton. José Peraza added a two-run double to right field. Scooter Gennett popped up to right field to end the game.

Final score: Nats 10, Reds 4.
