The booming bats: O's rout Cleveland 14-8

This time, no quality start was necessary. The Orioles hit four homers and scored a season high in runs in a 14-8 romp over Cleveland Tuesday night in game one of a six-game road trip. The Orioles improve to 7-1 under new manager Buck Showalter and are 8-4 over the last 12 games.

The Birds scored four in the fourth to lead 4-1 only to see Cleveland storm back for a 6-4 lead in the last of the fourth. But the O's then scored the game's next 10 runs with three in the 5th, one in the 6th and six in the 8th. The previous highest scoring night of the year was in a 12-9 win over Boston in Baltimore on May 1st. Luke Scott and Felix Pie hit three-run homers while Matt Wieters added a two-run shot and Corey Patterson hit a solo homer. The O's 13 hits was four off the season's best. The 14 runs they scored is three more than the O's had in four games in the series with the White Sox. Six players drove in runs and five Orioles had multi-hit games. Winning pitcher Jake Arrieta, now 4-3, allowed six runs over six innings as the club's run of seven straight quality starts came to an end.
