Too soon for Buck to be up to speed on the minors

For now, Buck Showalter is spending most of his time, as you might expect, dealing with the 25 players on the Orioles Major League roster. So far, he admits, he has taken a look at what the Orioles have in the minor leagues, but he's not as clued in on that right now as he will be later. "Not as I'm going to be. I'm trying to stay focused here, more than anything. That stuff will take care of itself. I trust the people there. You know John Stockstill has provided some good reading material for the planes. "The names I know and I'm trying to put some backgrounds with guys. A lot of that is down the road. I want to stay focused on what I'm doing here and get to know these guys. I don't want to get ahead of myself." I asked him if he had any general impression yet on how the Orioles are doing in their minor leagues. "I'm keeping an open mind about it. I've looked at a lot of bios over my years and media guides. You can paint a picture one way in your mind from your experience with certain guys. "Trying to keep an open mind with instructional league coming up. But I'm trying to stay focused on evaluating the 25 guys we've got here." Some other notes about the Orioles: *The starters have made five straight quality starts, pitching to an ERA of 2.14 in that time. *The O's offense scored 20 runs and hit .350 in the series sweep vs. the Angels with 12 doubles. The O's are batting just .229 with four runs and one double in two games vs. Chicago. *Ty Wigginton has 9 RBI his last nine games. *Nick Markakis and Adam Jones are both 8 for 17 during four-game hitting streaks while Josh Bell is 2 for 22 over his past six games. *In 19 games since returning from the DL, Luke Scott is batting .333-8-17 with five doubles.
