Trea Turner, 22, got his first taste of the majors last season with the Nationals. It was a season that saw him play for four different teams after beginning the year as property of the San Diego Padres organization and ending up in a Nationals uniform for 27 games.
He is pegged as the future of the Nationals at shortstop, and has earned No. 2 prospect status on Baseball America's Nationals top 10.

Since being named as the new manager in early November, Dusty Baker has been busy learning about his new team. While the veteran skipper might prefer to rely on his own eyes at spring training, he met with his new charges during Winterfest weekend and has been having dialogue with key players throughout the offseason.
Nationals fans have also been getting to know their new manager, who has made several trips to D.C. this winter to get acquainted with his new environment.
If you're still trying...
We are just under two weeks away from pitchers and catchers reporting to Sarasota, Fla., marking the return of baseball!
With that in mind, Caleb Joseph is taking in his last remaining days of the offseason to enjoy himself by going to the NHL All-Star Game in his hometown of Nashville this past weekend.
Had an amazing time at #NHLAllStarWeekend with my cousin. My hometown of Nashville put on a GREAT show. Skill level of players was unreal!

It was a slow week on social media for the Nationals, which must mean we are getting closer to spring training. The guys are probably busy getting their affairs in order, planning their workouts for the next two weeks and setting their packing checklist before heading out for Viera, Fla.
However, it seems that we do have some guys who are too eager and are already down by Space Coast Stadium.

Dan Uggla and Clint Robinson were among a host of veterans brought to Nationals spring training on minor league deals last year with seemingly no shot to crack a packed roster fresh off a division crown. Longtime major league outfielder Reed Johnson joined them in final days of camp.
After years as one of the game's best power-hitting second basemen, Uggla's offense had dropped off a cliff in the couple of seasons prior and his appearance was considered more of a charity case when he showed...
I can't promise that the Orioles will make news again today, but executive vice president Dan Duquette continues to work the phones in an attempt to finalize the roster by the start of spring training.
If it takes a little longer, so be it.
They completed a trade with the Padres for right-hander Odrisamer Despaigne. You can spell "San Diego Padres" using the letters in his name and still have a few left over. Anyone got a Scrabble board?
They designated left-hander C.J. Riefenhauser for...
Are the Orioles stockpiling fifth starter candidates?
And not just fifth starter candidates, but rotation options that can be optioned. If the Orioles cannot add a more established starting pitcher to their staff, could it be that they intend to have a revolving door of sorts with optionable pitchers in the fifth starter's role? Maybe take a look at several pitchers and/or go with the hot hand in that spot?
That list could include Mike Wright, Tyler Wilson, Chris Jones and now Odrisamer...
The Orioles today announced that they have agreed to terms with left-hander Brian Matusz on a one-year contract, thus avoiding arbitration.
Matusz, 28, posted a 2.94 ERA (16 ER/49.0 IP) with 56 strikeouts for a career-high 10.29 strikeouts per 9.0 innings ratio in 2015. Over 272 Major League games (68 starts) in seven seasons, Matusz has gone 27-41 with a 4.76 ERA (275 ER/519.2 IP) and 459 strikeouts. In his career, he has stranded 114-of-146 inherited runners (78 percent).

The Orioles avoided an arbitration hearing with left-hander Brian Matusz, who agreed to terms today on a $3.9 million contract, according to an industry source.
Matusz sought $4.4 million when the sides exchanged figures, and the Orioles countered at $3.5 million, so they almost met directly in the middle.
MLBTradeRumors.com projected that Matusz's salary would rise modestly from $3.2 million in 2015 to $3.4 million.
Matusz, the fourth overall pick in the 2008 draft out of the University of...
