Going into last night's game, the Texas Rangers had lost 11 of their last 12 games against the Orioles. But the Rangers hit four homers in an 8-1 win Monday night in the opener of a four-game series. The O's need a win to even the series tonight.
Texas had lost seven of its last eight heading into this series, but, over a longer stretch, they were 23-16 before taking the opener.
The Rangers are 24-19 on the road, and they have the most road wins in Major League Baseball. Also, the Rangers are...
Second baseman Jonathan Schoop worked out again today at Camden Yards and will report to Single-A Frederick later this week while continuing his injury rehab assignment.
Schoop is likely to join the Keys on Thursday. He won't accompany the Orioles to Chicago.
Schoop's rehab assignment runs through Friday and the Orioles are discussing whether to option him instead of placing him on the active roster.
"Obviously, he can be optioned. There are a lot of things there for us," said manager Buck...
As he continues to deliver hit after hit recently for the Orioles, third baseman Manny Machado is showing his growth at the plate. His manager and one of his teammates say we are seeing a situation right now where experience, concentration and smarts are combining with huge physical talent to produce impressive numbers.
Machado will take an 11-game hitting streak hitting into tonight's game. He is batting .426 (20-for-47) during the streak, with six doubles, two homers and 10 RBIs. He has...
Right-handers Jordan Zimmermann and Shelby Miller are set to tangle for the second time in less than a week when the Nationals and Braves face off tonight in Atlanta. Both came away without a decision in the Nationals 2-1, 11-inning win last Wednesday in D.C.
Zimmermann threw eight scoreless frames in that game, scattering six hits and striking out three without a walk. He left with a 1-0 lead before the Braves tied it up against Drew Storen in the ninth.
Miller, who owns the National League's...
Chris Davis remains in right field tonight as the Orioles continue their four-game series against the Rangers at Camden Yards.
Chris Parmelee gets another start at first base.
Davis is batting .333 during a nine-game hitting streak, his longest since a career high 11-game streak Sept. 22-Oct 2, 2012.
Manny Machado is batting .426 (20-for-47) during his 11-game hitting streak. He's recorded seven multi-hit games during that stretch.
Machado has hit safely in 20 of his last 22 games, batting...
Orioles fans of a variety of ages and abilities will enjoy a week filled with once-in-a-lifetime experiences at the team's 2016 Dream Week. Held at the Orioles' two-site complex in Sarasota, FL (Ed Smith Stadium and the Buck O'Neil Baseball Complex) from January 24-30, 2016, Dream Week offers participants the full major league treatment -- playing daily doubleheader intrasquad games and receiving instruction from former Orioles including Hall of Famer Jim Palmer, Mike Boddicker, Al Bumbry,...
The Orioles both receive and deserve credit for constantly working and reworking the fringes of the roster. They are again seeing the benefits of minor league signings like Chaz Roe, Chris Parmelee and Nolan Reimold, with the main goal being to eliminate the presence of bad players on the 25-man roster. Doing so can certainly be useful. If the O's are going to continue in that direction, then they may need to resolve the current issue that is Bud Norris.
Heading into the season, the Orioles...
Dan Uggla has just one home run this year, but it's arguably the biggest homer blasted for the Nationals all season. Staring at a puzzling 7-13 start and mired in a six-game losing streak, the Nats found themselves trailing by eight runs in Atlanta on April 28. But resilience took over, and so did some heavy bats as the Nationals chipped away at the Braves' seemingly insurmountable lead before Uggla finished off the historic comeback with a game-winning three-run homer in the ninth for the...
Remember that pitcher who threw that great outing in Game 3 of the American League Division Series last year? The one that got the win against the Detroit Tigers and David Price?
That was Bud Norris, but the Orioles have not seen Norris pitch this year as he did that day or for much of last season.
Norris went 15-8 with a 3.65 ERA last year. After giving up four homers in a loss to Texas last night, Norris is 2-7 with an ERA of 6.79 in 11 starts this year.
As some fans call for Norris to get...
After he struggled badly tonight, allowing four homers to tie his career high and five runs in six innings in a 8-1 loss to Texas, Orioles right-hander Bud Norris admitted that his confidence may have taken a hit this year.
"Probably a little bit," he said. "This game is very humbling. I know what I can do and have to work through it. I know these guys are pushing me and that is encouraging.
"I really didn't have much of my breaking stuff tonight, and three of the homers were on breaking...
