Chris Tillman no longer is a candidate to replace Bud Norris as Sunday's starter against the Angels. Tillman is bothered by lower back stiffness, an issue for him on occasion over the past few seasons. The latest flare-up occurred yesterday during Tillman's bullpen session. Manager Buck Showalter said Tillman feels better today, but he's not going to start the series finale. Norris, unable to start this weekend after being diagnosed with bronchitis, could be available out of the bullpen on...

Bowie right-hander Bobby Bundy, Dylan Bundy's older brother, is going to have right knee surgery on Monday and will miss the rest of the 2015 season. Bobby Bundy was pitching in a game May 5 against Akron when he fielded a ball to the third base side of the mound and felt something in the knee. He had ACL surgery on that same knee in high school. This is tough news for Bundy, who overcame three procedures to return to pitch this year for the Baysox and he was 1-0 with a 4.20 ERA in eight games....

The Orioles have traded veteran infielder Jayson Nix to the Phillies for cash considerations. Nix was batting .167/.388/.198 with three doubles and eight RBIs in 25 games at Triple-A Norfolk. The Phillies are assigning him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. It's believed that Nix had reached the opt-out date on his contract. He must see a better opportunity in the Phillies system. The Orioles have Paul Janish playing shortstop at Norfolk and Michael Almanzar is the starter at third base. Rey Navarro...

Friday night was a perfect second outing for rookie right-hander A.J. Cole. After starting in his first major league game, Cole came in to pitch three string innings in the Nationals' 10-0 shutout over the Padres. Cole threw 37 pitches and 23 for strikes. He allowed only one hit and recorded nine outs, no runs, a strikeout and no walks. He recorded his first professional save. On April 28, Cole lasted only two innings and allowed nine hits and nine runs, but only four of those runs were...

SAN DIEGO - The Nationals had never scored more than seven runs in franchise history in pitcher-friendly Petco Park. On Friday night, they poured in 10 runs in a runaway shutout win. The attack started quick with the first five batters reaching base. A single from Bryce Harper plated Denard Span for the first run. A bases-loaded walk to Ryan Zimmerman sent Yunel Escobar across the plate. And even on a double play grounder by Wilson Ramos, the Nats were able to score. They put four on the board...

SAN DIEGO - Just as Nationals left fielder Jayson Werth seemed to be turning the corner after a rough start, another setback occurred in Friday's 10-0 victory over San Diego. Padres starter Odrisamer Despaigne ran a 92 mph sinker in on Werth that violently struck his left wrist in the second inning. Werth crashed to the ground, clutching his wrist in obvious pain. Nationals manager Matt Williams and head athletic trainer Lee Kuntz quickly came out of the dugout to tend to Werth, who decided to...

The Orioles scratched Bud Norris from tonight's game due to an illness. He's 1-4 with a 9.88 ERA in six starts. He's also 4-0 with a 0.43 ERA in six career starts against the Angels. Norris can't catch a break. Norris, who's taking medication for bronchitis, has allowed two earned runs (four total) in 41 2/3 innings against the Angels. They've hit only one home run off him. The Angels might be the ideal tonic for Norris, who's 30 earned runs this season in 27 1/3 innings led the American...
