The Nationals try for their 11th straight victory tonight, which would establish a new franchise record. But in order to get there, they've got to beat a guy who's decidedly had their number.
Tim Hudson will be on the hill for the Giants. In 30 career starts against the Nats, he's 17-5 with a 2.37 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. Ironically, though his career dates to 1999, he never faced the Expos before they moved to the nation's capital. All of that damage has come against guys with interlocking Ds...
CHICAGO - Former Oriole Jake Arrieta retired the side in order today in the top of the first inning. Kevin Gausman did the same in the bottom half, needing only nine pitches.
Adam Jones said he's still considering whether to join other major league All-Stars in November for the five-game series in Japan.
Jones was chosen along with the Mariners' Robinson Cano, the Dodgers' Yasiel Puig and the Angels' Albert Pujols.
"It'll be good. It'll be a good event," he said. "First and...
For just the second time ever, the Orioles play at historic Wrigley Field today as they begin a three-game series against the Cubs.
In the 2008 season, the Orioles went 2-1 at Wrigley, outscoring Chicago 22-16. The Orioles are 9-5 this season in interleague games, going 5-1 at home and 4-4 on the road.
Kevin Gausman (7-4, 3.70 ERA) pitches against former Oriole Jake Arrieta (6-4, 2.61 ERA) this afternoon. Gausman is 3-1 with a 2.91 ERA in six road starts.
The Orioles drafted Arrieta in the...
CHICAGO - Orioles third baseman Manny Machado won't be ready to come off the disabled list when he's eligible on Wednesday, according to manager Buck Showalter.
Machado hasn't started baseball activities, and Showalter said he'd provide more information before Saturday's game.
"No plan right now," Showalter said. "Probably update you a little bit next few days where he is. I talked to him a little bit today, have a little bit better idea of how that's proceeding. It's kind of tough...
The Orioles have two teams in the Dominican Summer League and their DSL No. 1 team is headed to the playoffs.
That club is 47-23 with two regular season games remaining, having clinched its division championship. This is also the best record ever by an O's team in the DSL. The DSL Orioles won 10 in a row to wrap up the division. The team leads the league with a team ERA of 2.31.
Six teams make the DSL playoffs and the clubs with the two top records get first-round byes. The O's will play...

CHICAGO - The Orioles are making their second visit to Wrigley Field, and their fans are expected to pack the place. They already were lined up outside the ballpark more than four hours before the first pitch, and large groups were inside taking the tour.

With the Orioles facing Jake Arrieta for the first time, Steve Pearce is at first and Chris Davis is at third. Nelson Cruz is in left and Delmon Young is on the bench with no designated hitter...
After last night's win, the Nationals' 10th straight, Denard Span was asked how it felt to notch his 28th stolen base on the season, given how close he is to reaching his personal goal of 30 bags in a single year.
"Twenty-seven," Span responded, cracking a smile. "Twenty-seven. I know. I know these things."
He's on top of it, all right.
Span's 27th stolen base of the season was a big one. And according to him, it might've just been the most meaningful bag of his career.
With the game...

I'm jealous of Orioles fans who are visiting Wrigley Field this weekend. I love Wrigley and wish that I had been able to make the trip out there. If the Baltimore chatter amounts to anything, there will be a lot of orange in them thar stands as fans take advantage of a golden opportunity to experience one of baseball's historic gems.
The draw of Wrigley Field is obvious; you can understand why fans would make a weekend of it. Perhaps it's not only about the ballpark, though. O's fans seem...
