I'm back in the press box at Nationals Park, perched high - and I mean high - above field level. After two months of press boxes in spring training parks where we were practically right on top of the action, this view is pretty jarring. Tough life, I know. I just seriously feel like I'm in the clouds right now. A bunch of changes have been made around Nationals Park from the last time we were here. There's a giant Ian Desmond banner up above the concourse in left field joining ones of...

The interesting story of Adam Greenberg possibly playing for the Orioles came to an end this morning when the club released the 32-year-old outfielder. He had been signed as a minor league free agent on Dec. 22. Greenberg's emotional story led to him getting a one-day contract and one big league at-bat with the Miami Marlins last Oct. 2. An online petition led to the move for Greenberg, who had first made the majors in 2005 with the Cubs, but got hit in the head with a 92-mph fastball on the...

SARASOTA, Fla. - Pitcher Jair Jurrjens will play catch this morning and could appear in Saturday's game against the New York Mets if the discomfort in his ribcage continues to subside. Jurrjens woke up feeling much better today, in large part due to the anti-inflammatory drugs and muscle relaxers that were prescribed. Jurrjens had to leave Wednesday night's start against the New York Yankees in the second inning after being nailed by a line drive. "I feel good. It's gotten better," he...

Left fielder Bryce Harper's sore left thumb is no longer a concern - he's in the lineup, batting third. Ahead of him in the batting order is Jayson Werth, who got yesterday off after being plunked in the left elbow...

SARASOTA, Fla. - Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts met with manager Buck Showalter before last night's game and learned that he's going to bat ninth on opening day against the Tampa Bay Rays' David Price. The first hint came when Roberts hit ninth last night against Price. Showalter didn't post the lineup until he clued in Roberts, who has batted leadoff in 1,120 games and ninth in 17 during his major league career. If Roberts is bothered by the news, he didn't show it this morning...

The San Francisco Giants are taking aim at winning their third World Series in four seasons. But first, they have to conquer the National League. Here's what the NL looks like: ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS Storyline: After making the 2011 playoffs, the Diamondbacks took a step back last season. They have a deep rotation, more speed and better lineup balance. Bounce-back seasons from RHPs Ian Kennedy and Trevor Cahill will help. Players to watch: CF Adam Eaton, who will miss April because of a...

Pitchers Pat Egan and Jaime Esquivel, and outfielder Jeremy Nowak were among eight players released from the Orioles' minor leagues this morning. Among the released players were four O's draft picks, three signed out of independent ball this winter and one minor league free agent. The Orioles also released outfielders Chris Pettit, Will Howard and Buddy Sosnoskie, pitcher Chase Johnson and shortstop Chris Wade. Maybe the biggest name in this group was Egan, a 28-year-old right-hander who...

No more "Viera, Fla. - ..." dateline. What a beautiful sight. I'm back in the mid-Atlantic region, where the temperature isn't really that much colder than it was on the east coast of Florida. The Nationals arrived back in D.C. last night and will take on the Yankees at 2 p.m. this afternoon at Nats Park, an exhibition that will serve as the final chance for guys to get a taste of game action before the regular season arrives. For those of you with the day off or TV access at work, the...
