Matt Wieters has now thrown out seven of 10 potential base stealers and his 70 percent success rate leads the American League. Joe Mauer of Minnesota has gotten 60 percent (3-of-5) and no one else is close to that pair in the AL.
Wieters has made improvements in this area and said he feels the speed of getting the throw off is probably the biggest factor in throwing out a runner.
"I always think getting rid of the ball is the biggest factor. Get rid of it quick and then make an accurate...
Orioles manager Buck Showalter had Matt Wieters catch Game 1 of yesterday's doubleheader so the two-time Gold Glove winner could return to the lineup this afternoon.

It's official: Anthony Rendon now finds himself on the Nationals' big league roster.
The Nats have placed Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain this morning. The DL stint will be retroactive to April 18.
Taking Zimmerman's spot on the roster - and in the Nationals' lineup - will be Rendon, the organization's top prospect according to Baseball America. The 22-year-old Rendon, who was the Nats' No. 1 pick (sixth overall) in the 2011 first-year player's...
The next time you hear from me this morning, I'll be posting the lineups for the series finale between the Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers at Camden Yards.
The Orioles will be facing right-hander Chad Billingsley, and their exposure to him is limited. Nate McLouth is 5-for-16. J.J. Hardy is 2-for-10 with a home run. Chris Dickerson is 1-for-3 with a double. Alexi Casilla is 0-for-2 with a walk.
McLouth figures to be in left field today. Reimold could serve as the designated hitter, assuming...
Entering last night's game, Adam Jones had just three at-bats in his big league career serving as the designated hitter. Now he can add four more to that.
Batting fourth as the DH, Jones went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in the 6-1 win over the Dodgers. Through 17 games, he is batting .352 with seven doubles, two homers, 14 RBIs and a .905 OPS.
When an everyday player gets moved to DH for a game it can be a unique adjustment dealing with some down time and it was for Jones last night.
"I'm...
The Orioles sweep the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Sort of like the 1966 World Series, only different.
The starters went six innings in both games, and Tommy Hunter covered the last three in Game 2 to spare the bullpen.
"I would have signed up for that in blood before we started, to try to get through it," said manager Buck Showalter after the 6-1 victory in Game 2. "Mac (T.J. McFarland) is available tomorrow. Well, everybody is available with the exception of Tommy (Hunter)."
Hunter picked up...
Manny Machado is not one to over-analyze his own play but tonight he was asked if he could explain how he is hitting homers at a greater rate in the majors than he did last year at Double-A Bowie.
Last season there, Machado hit 11 homers in 109 Baysox games and now he has nine in 68 big league games after his three-hit, four RBI night led the Orioles to a 6-1 win over the Dodgers.
"You know I just think the more at-bats I get the more comfortable I feel at the plate," Machado said. "It...
Orioles fans have seen Manny Machado do some special things for their team already in his short big league career. He had quite a night tonight, leading the Orioles past Los Angeles 6-1 and a sweep of today's day-night doubleheader.
The Orioles are 10-7 and three games over .500 for the first time in 2013. They have won three in a row, four of five and seven of the last 10 games. This was the O's first doubleheader sweep since Oct. 1, 2010 vs. Detroit
With the game tied 1-1 in the last of...
Need more proof that Chris Davis is freakishly strong?
Davis unloaded on Dodgers starter Josh Beckett in the second inning of Game 2, homering to straightaway center field to tie the game, 1-1.
The ball easily cleared the 410 foot sign and kept going, traveling an estimated 448 feet. Davis is now tied for the 11th-longest home run in Camden Yards history. It's the third-longest by an Oriole.
Jeffrey Hammonds has the longest at 460 feet on Sept. 15, 1997 off the Indians' Eric Plunk, and...
The Orioles didn't allow a run in the first inning over their first 12 games of the season.
Now they can't stop it from happening.
The Tampa Bay Rays scored in the first inning in all three games of their series here, and the Los Angeles Dodgers scored in the first in both ends of today's doubleheader.
Left-hander Wei-Yin Chen hit Carl Crawford with a pitch, Nick Punto dropped a single into center field and Adrian Gonzalez lifted a sacrifice fly to left field with one out to give Los...
