ABERDEEN, Md. - It's humid and cloudy here at Ripken Stadium. The short-season Single-A Aberdeen IronBirds, who are 16-32, will host the Hudson Valley Renegades, who have a record of 24-23 coming up at 5:35 p.m. Matt Hobgood is starting tonight for Aberdeen and expected to pitch four innings as the Orioles 2009 first-round pick continues to work his way back from a strained rotator cuff. Check back for updates on his outing tonight at Aberdeen. Here is today's IronBirds lineup: CF - Glynn...

The Orioles are 0-9-2 in their last 11 series after today's 7-2 loss to the Blue Jays. They haven't won a series since June 24-26 against the Reds. Buck Showalter meets with the media to speak about the O's 7-2 loss to the Jays "It's frustrating because it's something that, we'd like to win all three," manager Buck Showalter said. "Where we are, we need to make up some ground just from a W and L standpoint. Chicago's coming in here for four and hopefully we get some of our people...

This just in: Mark Reynolds has sick power. Reynolds hit his second home run today, and the ball traveled an estimated 450 feet into the second deck in left field. Reynolds tied for the sixth-longest homer in Camden Yards history. It's the second-longest hit by an Oriole. Jeffrey Hammonds launched a ball 460 feet on Sept. 15, 1997 in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Indians. I've seen one other ball reach the second deck, and it came off Juan Gonzalez's bat during batting practice for...
Simon gone, Bergesen in, Reyes for Tuesday
Simon gone, Bergesen in, Reyes for Tuesday

I'm speculating about the last part because the Orioles haven't announced it, but Brad Bergesen is no longer an option to start Tuesday night because he replaced Alfredo Simon today, and Jo-Jo Reyes is leaning against the dugout railing. Reyes isn't an option to pitch in relief today or he'd be, you know, sitting in the bullpen. Simon gave up six runs (four earned) and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings. He didn't walk a batter, struck out three and served up Brett Lawrie's first major league...

Brandon Morrow retired the first 15 Orioles he faced last night. Ricky Romero has retired the first nine Orioles today. Romero has struck out three batters. He's let two balls out of the infield. He's disposed of the Orioles in 27 pitches. He also has a 2-0 lead after Jose Bautista poked a two-run double down the right field line in the third inning. Both runs off Alfredo Simon were unearned after third baseman Josh Bell misplayed Rajai Davis' grounder with one out. Bell never got in...

Shortstop J.J. Hardy didn't reveal much about the CT scan taken yesterday on his left ankle, other than to say the news was good. Hardy isn't avoiding the topic. It's just a little confusing. He doesn't have swelling in the ankle and it doesn't always bother him. It's been somewhat of a mystery. "It was good news, definitely," he said. "Nothing wrong with the bone structure or anything with the bone. Looks like I'll take another day kind of easy today, don't test it really, and...

Even though I feel like my blogging performance has been solid enough to keep me in the majors, I am sending myself to the minor leagues later today. I'll skip today's game at Camden Yards and will check in this afternoon on the Aberdeen IronBirds at Ripken Stadium.

Nothing is official, but left-hander Jo-Jo Reyes threw in the bullpen today in preparation for Tuesday night's start against the White Sox. Reyes took a work day after failing to pitch in last night's 6-2 victory over the Blue Jays. He'd be ready to start Tuesday if he isn't needed in relief over these next two games. Brad Bergesen appears to be the other in-house candidate from the bullpen, but Reyes clearly is the frontrunner at this point. Triple-A Norfolk's Rick VandenHurk would be...
