As most of you know, the Orioles traded Koji Uehara to the Texas Rangers before the trade deadline for Tommy Hunter and Chris Davis. Rather than discuss the trade per se, I thought I'd walk through what we might expect from the new Birds for the rest of this season. To do so we want to look at the players' numbers, while giving more weight to more recent performance (so how they did last year counts more than how they did three years ago). There some consideration for the guys' age, with...

Now that the third player taken in the June First-Year Player Draft, UCLA right-handed pitcher Trevor Bauer, has agreed to a contract with Arizona, some are wondering if his deal will serve as a guideline for the Orioles in their contract negotiations with top pick Dylan Bundy, who was taken fourth overall, one spot after Bauer. Bauer got a four-year, major league contract from the Diamondbacks that could be potentially worth more than $7 million, according to Baseball America. He is...

I hustled over to the gym between games of Saturday's doubleheader and news broke of the Koji Uehara trade. I brought my laptop with me and did my writing and made my phone calls from Triangle Fitness. I went to the gym yesterday, pulled into my parking spot and received an e-mail from the Orioles detailing the Jo-Jo Reyes waiver claim, Justin Duchscherer's release, Brad Bergesen's return from paternity leave and Luke Scott's transfer to the 60-day disabled list. I didn't bring my laptop,...

The Nationals have started to play some good baseball again, and this time, with an edge. Maybe they call it "Beast Mode." You have seen the Nationals' first baseman Michael Morse and his now-famous t-shirt during MASN's Nats Xtra postgame show interviews, haven't you? If not, here it is. It gained popularity thanks to the outstanding play of Morse, who has continued to mash the ball, hitting his 18th homer of the season, as part of a three-dinger barrage against Braves pitching in...

LJ Hoes has homered in both ends of Double-A Bowie's doubleheader tonight, giving him six in the last eight days. Hoes hit a three-run shot in Game 2, giving him 41 RBIs. Cesar Izturis had the game-winning RBI in Game 1. Maybe they'll have a bobblehead night for him at Prince George's Stadium. Mark Reynolds joins the O's Xtra crew to talk about his five-RBI night in the O's 8-2 victory Now let's go to Kansas City, where the Orioles are holding a 4-1 lead in the top of the seventh...

At this point, the news is good on Orioles minor league pitcher Clayton Schrader. While he was placed on the Single-A Frederick Keys disabled list today due to elbow discomfort, he could return to pitch in the minors before this season ends. Schrader has what is called a flexor mass strain and has gone on the minor league DL, retroactive to Sunday. No MRI is planned on his elbow. Schrader has posted some very strong numbers on the farm this year. The right-hander, the Orioles' 10th-round...

Orioles manager Buck Showalter told reporters in Kansas City this evening that pitcher Jake Arrieta will see renowned orthopedist Dr. Lewis Yocum on Aug. 10 because of recurring discomfort in his right elbow. Arrieta was skipped in the rotation earlier this season because of inflammation related to a bone spur. Apparently, he's now dealing with a fibrous mass that could force him to the disabled list. Buck Showalter meets with the media to talk about Jake Arrieta's injury This partially...

No dollar figures were exchanged, but the Orioles have begun the process they hope will lead to them signing high school pitcher Dylan Bundy, their first-round draft pick taken fourth overall in June, with a meeting today in Lakeland, Fla. At the East Coast Scouts showcase, Orioles scouting director Joe Jordan met with Denver Bundy, Dylan's father and also part of his representation. Denver works for B.B.I. Sports Group, which represents his son. "It went really good," Denver Bundy said of...

Righty Scott Copeland is also going from Delmarva to Frederick while the Shorebirds are activating pitcher Josh Dowdy off the disabled list and get right-hander Jake Cowan from Aberdeen.
