Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs second baseman Matt Antonelli began the season with the Double-A Harrisburg Senators and played just four games before being promoted. He has not missed a beat at the next level, batting .308 at Triple-A.
This week, Antonelli was named to the International League All-Star squad alongside teammate and pitcher Tom Milone in Wednesday's Triple-A All-Star Game from Salt Lake City, Utah. The pair are the lone Syracuse players so honored this season.
Antonelli's overall...
If you weren't invited to the All-Star Game as a late replacement, you might want to check your voicemail or text messages.
My interest in the "mid-summer classic" has waned over the years. Considering that three-fourths of the players chosen this year withdrew for various reasons - they're injured, they pitched on Sunday, they don't like a dry heat - I'd prefer to watch any program with a Kardashian sister.
(Scott Rolen is the starting third baseman for the National League. He's...
The Orioles, along with the Orioles Wives, Orioles Advocates, WJZ-TV, and the Maryland Food Bank, will hold their 25th annual Food Drive at Oriole Park at Camden Yards this weekend, July 15-17, during the Orioles' series with the Cleveland Indians. Members of these groups will collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations from fans at each entrance from the time gates open until the middle of the second inning during games this weekend.
Items most needed at this time according to...
Nothing major here, but Luke Scott and Justin Duchscherer were examined today by team orthopedist Dr. John Wilckens while the rest of the team - with the exception of All-Star catcher Matt Wieters - returned home or went on vacation.
Scott underwent an MRA last week that didn't reveal additional damage to his right shoulder. He received another cortisone injection today, along with further reassurances that he could be activated from the disabled list on July 19.
Scott could end up having...

It's the All-Star break, and like most of Major League Baseball, "The Mid-Atlantic Sports Report" will be taking some time off.
The program will not air Monday, July 11 through Wednesday, July 13.

Here are one writer's thoughts as baseball shifts to the All-Star break:
* The Orioles' season is in shambles. The only way to fix it is to get more pitching into system, and the only way to do that is to make everyone available before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, and hope that market will allow pitching to come their way. The Orioles' biggest trade chips are Jeremy Guthrie, Jim Johnson, Koji Uehara and J.J. Hardy, assuming he doesn't sign.
* The Nationals should try to trade...
It's hard to believe the first half of the 2011 season has come to a close. And for the Nationals, it has to be one filled with great optimism.
With impressive starting pitching, the surprise power from first baseman Michael Morse and a bullpen that's been solid throughout the first few months, the Nationals, a team that was poised to do great things in 2012 or later, look like they're not really willing to wait that long to make some noise in the National League.
Here at Nationals Buzz,...
You know it's going bad for Jeremy Guthrie when he gives up one run yesterday and loses his 12th game.
Talk about no run support!
Guthrie pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief of Mitch Atkins. He's slated to start Thursday night against the Indians at Camden Yards, but he could switch places with Jake Arrieta.
Yes, the Orioles also play at Camden Yards. It's just been a while.
I can't talk about the rotation today. I'll get back to it later this week, but not today. I don't want to compute...
Shortstop Manny Machado went 0-for-2 tonight in the All-Star Futures Game in Phoenix.
Machado, batting second, flied to right field in the first inning and flied to right again in the third. They looked like duplicate outs.
Tim Beckham, the first-overall pick in the 2008 draft, pinch-hit for Machado with two outs in the fifth inning and Team USA leading the World Team, 3-0.
Machado is hitting .222 with two homers and four RBIs in 14 games at Single-A Frederick. He batted .276 with six...
