The Orioles reinstated right-hander Jorge López from the bereavement list and he's starting tonight against the Royals in Kansas City.
The active roster is full again.
A player on the bereavement list must be away from the team for a minimum of three days, not three games. López is eligible to come back today.
López has returned to Kauffman Stadium, where he's 1-6 with a 7.93 ERA and 1.672 WHIP in 21 games (11 starts). He pitched for the Royals from 2018-20, when the Orioles claimed him off waivers in August.
The rotation is unsettled beyond tonight, with Sunday TBD and no one confirmed for the Rays series at Tropicana Field. John Means is expected to be activated from the injured list.
The Rays appear to be going with Ryan Yarbrough or an opener on Monday, Shane McClanahan on Tuesday and Michael Wacha or an opener on Wednesday.
The Royals tonight are starting right-hander Brady Singer, the 18th overall pick in the 2018 draft out of the University of Florida. He's 3-6 with a 4.52 ERA and 1.482 WHIP this summer in 18 starts and is averaging 0.8 home runs, 3.8 walks and 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings.
Singer held the Reds to one run over six innings in his last outing. He has a 3.99 ERA in 10 home games and a 5.25 ERA in eight road games.
The Royals matched their season high last night with 15 hits. They won without a home run for the first time since May 28.
They're 19-6 against the Orioles in Kansas City since 2013, going 10-1 dating back to April 24, 2016.
Whit Merrifield is the first Royals right fielder to record four hits and three RBIs in a game since Lorenzo Cain on Aug. 14, 2016.
Orioles catcher Pedro Severino matched his season high with three hits last night, but also failed again to prevent a wild pitch on a ball in the dirt.
Orioles first-round pick Colton Cowser, an outfielder from Sam Houston State, took his physical and is in town to sign his contract this weekend, according to multiple sources.
Second-rounder Connor Norby, an infielder from East Carolina University, signed yesterday for $1.7 million, below the slot value of $1,813,500.
