The other shoe dropped today for the Orioles.
Infielder Ryan Flaherty has been reinstated from the 60-day disabled list. To make room for him, the Orioles outrighted infielder Rubén Tejada to Triple-A Norfolk after he cleared waivers.
The 40-man roster remains full with Flaherty replacing Tejada.
Tejada's removal from the 25-man roster was anticipated. He appeared in only two games this month, playing the ninth inning at shortstop and third base. He hasn't batted since July 31, the day that the Orioles acquired Tim Beckham from the Rays.
Tejada batted .230/.293/.283 with six doubles and five RBIs in 41 games. He went 26-for-113.
The Orioles purchased Tejada's contract from the Yankees on June 4.
Norfolk's roster includes veteran Paul Janish, who's retiring after the season, and infielder Luis Sardiñas. There is no shortage of shortstops.
Flaherty batted .233/.324/.267 in 13 games, collecting seven hits in 30 at-bats, before going on the disabled list with a strained right shoulder. He hasn't played since May 18 in Detroit.
The Orioles activated Rule 5 outfielder Anthony Santander from the 60-day disabled list yesterday and optioned outfielder Joey Rickard to Norfolk.
