The Washington Nationals today returned from rehab and reinstated center fielder Rick Ankiel from the 15-Day Disabled List and designated outfielder Brett Carroll for assignment. Nationals Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Ankiel, 32, was originally placed on the 15-Day Disabled List (left quad) on April 3, retroactive to March 28. In eight games during his rehab assignment with Double-A Harrisburg (four games), Single-A Hagerstown (three) and Syracuse (one), Ankiel went 8-for-20 (.400) with a double, three homers, seven RBI, five walks and six runs scored.
The 29 year-old Carroll played in five games for Washington this season, going 0-for-2 with two runs scored.
