Nationals announce roster moves

The Washington Nationals made the following roster moves on Sunday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.

  • Selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Javy Guerra from Triple-A Fresno
  • Recalled outfielder Andrew Stevenson from Double-A Harrisburg
  • Placed left-handed pitcher Roenis Elías on the 10-day Injured List with a right hamstring strain
  • Placed infielder Howie Kendrick on the 10-day Injured List with a left hamstring strain (retroactive to 8/1)

Guerra, 33, returns to the Nationals after having appeared in 23 games out of Washington’s bullpen this season. He struck out 21 batters, issued 10 walks and held opposing batters to a .254 batting average. He tossed more than 1.0 innings in 9.0 of the 23 games.

Stevenson, 25, returns for his third Major League assignment of the season. In 12 games (3 starts) for the Nationals this season, he is hitting .286 (4-for-14) with three walks and three runs scored. Stevenson hit .328 with a .377 on-base percentage and a .490 slugging percentage in 76 games between Triple-A Fresno and Double-A Harrisburg this season.

Elías, 31, appeared in one game out of the Nationals’ bullpen tossing 0.2 IP, recording one hold and one strikeout.

Kendrick, 36, hit .316 with 16 doubles, 12 homers, 48 RBI, 20 walks and 42 runs scored in 88 games for the Nationals in 2019.
