Game 41 lineups: Nats vs. Mets

There’s a ballgame being played tonight in Washington, and that in and of itself is good news for the local club, which last set foot on the turf here 12 days ago. The Nationals have a six-game homestand against the Mets and Cubs, and they’ll try to get things off on the right foot tonight against a New York team that has lost 10 of its last 16 and is facing an important week itself.

The Nationals lineup is healthier than it was the last time they played here, with Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto active again. And it will get even healthier soon with Trea Turner nearing his return. Turner, who is now exactly six weeks removed from breaking his right index finger, is beginning a rehab assignment with Single-A Potomac tonight. So it’s fair to wonder if we’ll see him here sometime this weekend. On the flip side, Howie Kendrick is not in the lineup for the third straight game. He missed two games over the weekend with a stiff neck. We’ll see what’s going on there shortly.

Hellickson-Throwing-White-Tongue-Out-Sidebar.jpgJeremy Hellickson, meanwhile, is on the mound tonight and needs to give his team a chance to win. The right-hander has completed six innings only once this season, way back on April 10. And he has allowed five or more runs in three of his last four starts. Improvement, suffice it to say, is needed.
