Gonzalez, Latos trading zeros

The Nationals and Reds have combined for just three hits through four innings of play this afternoon, as starters Gio Gonzalez and Mat Latos have looked sharp early in the Nats' home opener. Gonzalez has allowed only two Reds runners to reach base - one on a Jay Bruce double and the other on an error committed by third baseman Ryan Zimmerman. The Nats left-hander, making his first appearance at Nats Park since being acquired in a trade with the A's this offseason, has only allowed two balls to leave the outfield so far and has struck out three. He's needed just 51 pitches to get through four innings and has been much improved over his first start, when he allowed four runs and seven hits over 3 2/3 innings against the Cubs. Ian Desmond and Adam LaRoche have the only two Nationals hits off Latos. And despite some people thinking today might be Teddy's day to win the Presidents' Race, he came up just short. The Nats might have won their first two series of the 2012 season, but Teddy is still winless.
