Jackson the latest Nats starter to dominate (Nats win 4-1)

Given the workload that the Nationals' bullpen had to handle last night, the team needed Edwin Jackson to step up and work deep into today's game. Jackson's done just that. The hard-throwing righty has worked seven incredibly impressive innings, allowing just a single run on two hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Jackson has now retired 16 straight hitters and shockingly has needed just 66 pitches to get through the seven frames. Of the 66 pitches, a whopping 52 have been strikes. This from a guy that could easy throw 66 pitches in two innings. With the exception of the second inning, in which Jackson allowed two hits and hit a batter, he's been perfect. After the 13-inning affair that the Nationals battled through last night, with their bullpen working six innings, this type of performance from Jackson is huge. The Nats still lead the Reds 3-1 here in the bottom of the seventh. Update: The Nats added an ever-important insurance run in the seventh on Jayson Werth's RBI double to right. It's 4-1 Washington and Jackson is back out for the eighth. Update II: It's over. Jackson finishes out a complete game, allowing just one run, two hits, one walk and nine strikeouts, and the Nats beat the Reds 4-1. Washington is now 7-2 on the season.
