LaRoche a close second for Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year award

Yesterday, it was Bryce Harper who fell short of the Sporting News Rookie of the Year award.
Today, it's Adam LaRoche coming up just a few votes shy of the Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year honors.
LaRoche was edged out by Giants catcher Buster Posey, who won the award by earning 31 votes to LaRoche's 29.
The voting was done by a panel of major league players.
LaRoche battled shoulder issues through his first season with the Nationals last year, hitting just .172 with a .546 OPS in 43 games before season-ending surgery in June to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
The 32-year-old bounced back to post monster numbers this season, hitting .271 with an .853 OPS, a career-high 33 home runs and 100 RBIs, which tied a career best.
Posey, meanwhile, came back from a major injury of his own. The Giants' catcher was part of a violent collision at the plate last May which resulted in a fractured left fibula and three torn ligaments in his ankle.
He responded to win the batting title this season with a .336 average, hitting 24 home runs and driving in 103 runs. Posey is considered by many a favorite to win the NL MVP award.
Former National Adam Dunn won the Comeback Player of the Year award in the American League.
