Lidge to DL with abdominal injury, Perry recalled

Ryan Zimmerman isn't the only Nationals player heading to the disabled list. The Nats announced that they've placed right-handed pitcher Brad Lidge on the 15-day DL with an abdominal wall strain and recalled right-hander Ryan Perry from Triple-A Syracuse. Lidge, who has spent quite a bit of time on the disabled list over the course of his career, finds himself sidelined yet again. He battled a bout of vertigo earlier this season, and now The 35-year-old has two saves and two blown saves this season, to go along with a 5.14 ERA in seven relief appearances. Lidge last pitched last Saturday, when he blew a save against the Marlins, allowing a game-tying two-run homer in the ninth inning. Perry, acquired from the Tigers last year in a trade which sent Collin Balester to Detroit, went 1-0 with two saves and a 2.00 ERA in eight relief appearances with Syracuse this season. The tall righty was the Tigers' first-round pick (21st overall) in the 2008 draft. With Lidge on the DL, Henry Rodriguez will take over the role as the Nats' full-time closer.
