Scherzer-Head-On-Road.jpgScherzer lost his first start of the month before winning his final five in a row. He allowed just eight earned runs while striking out 56 and walking only eight in 43 innings. In four of Scherzer's six outings, the right-hander struck out 10 or more batters, including a season-high 13 on May 27.

Scherzer is 6-4 on the season with a 1.85 ERA, third best in the majors. He is tied for the National League lead with 90 strikeouts, and he has thrown an NL-best 77 2/3 innings.

With Bryce Harper winning the NL Player of the Month honors, the Nationals have swept the awards in the same month for the first time in team history (2005-present). According to Nationals PR, the last pair of NL teammates to win the Player and Pitcher of the Month awards in the same month were Milwaukee's Ryan Braun and CC Sabathia in July of 2008.
