Nationals place 1B Adam LaRoche on Disabled List

The Washington Nationals today placed first baseman Adam LaRoche (torn labrum, left shoulder) on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to May 22. Nationals Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement. LaRoche is batting .172 with four doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI in 43 games this season. The 31-year-old leads the Nationals with 25 walks. LaRoche is playing flawless defense (no errors/412 total chances) this season at first base and has contributed significantly to an improved defensive infield. Through 46 games, the Nationals have committed six fewer infield errors compared to last season (16 infield errors in 2011, 22 infield errors through 46 games in 2010).
