Nationals place Ramos on DL, select Leon from Double-A Harrisburg

The Washington Nationals today selected catcher Sandy Leon from Harrisburg of the Double-A Eastern League and placed catcher Wilson Ramos on the 15-Day Disabled List with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (right knee). Nationals Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement. Leon, who will wear No. 41 when he joins the Nationals for their series finale today at Cincinnati, batted .319 with 10 doubles, one home run and 12 RBI in 27 games this season with the Senators. A two-way talent, Leon has thrown out 41 percent (12 of 29) of would-be basestealers in 2012. The 23-year-old has gunned down 133 of 261 (51 percent) runners attempting to steal during the last three seasons (2010-12). Leon has batted .246 with 11 home runs and 137 RBI in 364 contests during six seasons in the minor leagues. Ramos, 24, is batting .265 with two doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI in 25 games this season with Washington.
