Nationals place Stephen Strasburg on injured list

The Washington Nationals placed right-handed pitcher Stephen Strasburg on the 10-day Injured List (carpal tunnel neuritis of the right hand) and recalled right-handed pitcher Ryne Harper from the Alternate Training Site (Fredericksburg) on Saturday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Strasburg, 32, went 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA in two starts this season. He tossed 4.1 innings in his first start on Aug. 9 vs. Baltimore. In his last start, Aug. 14 at Baltimore, he tossed 0.2 innings before being removed from the game. This will be Strasburg's first stint on the Injured List since he was removed on Aug. 22, 2018.

Harper, 31, has appeared in nine of Washington's 17 games this season and has tossed scoreless relief in six of the nine outings. He has struck out 12 batters against four walks while going 1-0 with a 8.10 ERA along the way.
