Nationals recall Call, Hill DFA

The Washington Nationals recalled outfielder Alex Call from Triple-A Rochester and designated outfielder Derek Hill for assignment on Wednesday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Call, 28, hit .275 with three doubles, a home run, three RBI, seven walks, three stolen bases and five runs scored in 11 games for Triple-A Rochester. He reached base safely in 10 of his 11 games, collecting at least one hit in eight of those contests. Call returns for his second stint in Washington this season after he made the team out of Spring Training and was optioned June 16.

Call has played in 64 games with the Nationals in 2023. He’s hit .209 with nine doubles, three home runs, 20 RBI, 26 walks, 24 runs, and six stolen bases. He delivered the Nationals’ only walk-off win so far this season, hitting his first career walk-off home run on May 4 against the Chicago Cubs.

Hill, 27, hit .170 with one RBI, one stolen base and three runs scored in 13 games for Washington.
