Nationals recall left-hander Matt Grace

The Washington Nationals recalled left-handed pitcher Matt Grace from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday and placed right-handed pitcher Koda Glover on the 10-day disabled list with a left hip impingement. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Grace, 28, joins the Nationals for his first Major League assignment of the season. The left-hander has a 3.60 ERA in 31 career Major League games, including five appearances last season over which he allowed just one hit and did not give up a run. Grace joins the Major League roster on the heels of three consecutive scoreless appearances with Triple-A Syracuse, the last one coming on April 23 vs. Norfolk (Baltimore), in which he threw a spotless inning with one strikeout.

A former eighth-round draft selection in the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of UCLA, Grace has posted a 61.2 percent ground-ball rate in his Major League career. Relying on a heavy fastball/slider repertoire, Grace has never allowed a Major League home run, and has allowed just six in the Minor Leagues since his conversion to relief in 2013.

Glover, 23, is 0-1 with two saves and a 4.15 ERA in 11 relief appearances this season. The second member of the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft class to ascend to the Major Leagues, Glover has made 30 Major League relief appearances. He has worked to a 2-1 record and a 4.76 ERA in 28.1 innings of work.
