Nationals reinstate first baseman Ryan Zimmerman

The Nationals reinstated first baseman Ryan Zimmerman from the Paternity List on Monday and optioned infielder Trea Turner to Triple-A Syracuse. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Zimmerman, 31, was hitting .250 with a .312 on-base percentage and a .451 slugging percentage when he went on the Paternity List on June 3. The first baseman has collected 11 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, and 26 RBI for the Nationals in 48 games this season.

Zimmerman and his wife, Heather, welcomed their second child on Thursday, June 2.

Turner, 22, went 3-for-3 with a walk in his brief first Major League assignment of the season. The Nationals' No. 2 prospect, according to Baseball America, and the No. 9 prospect in all of baseball entering the 2016 season, Turner returns to Triple-A, where he left hitting .310 with a .376 on-base percentage in 50 games at Triple-A. The speedy Turner has clubbed 13 doubles, five triples, and three home runs. He's also stolen 17 bases, scored 38 runs and driven in 24 for the Chiefs.

Acquired by the Nationals, along with right-handed pitcher Joe Ross, in a three-team trade that was agreed upon Dec. 18, 2015 and completed June 14, Turner hit .225 in 27 Major League games in 2015.
