Nationals reinstate SS Trea Turner

The Washington Nationals reinstated shortstop Trea Turner from the 10-day disabled list on Friday and designated infielder Grant Green for assignment. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Turner, 23, returns to the Nationals after missing 10 games with a right hamstring strain. The fleet-footed shortstop appeared in two extended spring training games this week in West Palm Beach, going 5-for-7 with two doubles, a triple, three walks and two stolen bases in 16 innings.

The runner up for the 2016 National League Rookie of the Year, Turner was 3-for-19 with a double and three stolen bases in the Nationals' first five games of the 2017 season.

Green, 29, appeared in two games for the Nationals, getting the start on Thursday night in Atlanta (0-for-3). A former first-round selection in the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft (No. 13 overall, by Oakland), Green has posted a career .251 batting average with 15 doubles, one triple, four home runs, 38 RBI and 36 runs scored in 127 Major League games.

The Nationals are the fourth Major League team Green has played for, coming to Washington after stops with the Oakland Athletics, Los Angeles Angels, and San Francisco Giants.
