Scoreless after three innings (Rangers win 6-3)

We're through three scoreless innings at Nationals Park, and if the early going is any indication, the hitters aren't adjusting too well to the 12:05 p.m. start time after a Friday night game.

Both the Nationals' Gio Gonzalez and the Rangers' Martín Pérez have faced the minimum nine batters, with each team getting a hit and having that player erased on a caught stealing. Gonzalez has thrown 50 pitches and Pérez 49.

Michael A. Taylor beat out a grounder to short for an infield hit with two outs in the third, but was thrown out on an attempted steal by Texas backstop Robinson Chirinos.

Update: The Rangers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth, but Gonzalez definitely minimized the damage.

Delino DeShields led off with a double to left and Shin-Soo Choo drew a walk. After a double steal, Andrus' grounder to short plated DeShields with the game's first run The next batter, Adrian Beltre, hit a sharp grounder to short and Choo broke on the contact play. But Trea Turner's perfect throw to the plate beat him and Lobaton applied the tag. Gonzalez then struck out Nomar Mazara, recording his sixth whiff of the afternoon.

Update II: After squandering a bases-loaded, no-outs situation in the fifth, the Nats finally got on the board in the sixth.

Bryce Harper led off with a double into the right field corner and went to third when Daniel Murphy punched a single to left (Harper had to hold up to make sure the ball wasn't caught). Tony Barnette replaced Pérez and Anthony Rendon lined a sac fly to left to tie the game. Adam Lind then ripped a two-run homer to center for a 3-1 lead.

Pérez went five-plus innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts. He threw 98 pitches, 59 for strikes.

Gonzalez will give way to Matt Albers heading to the seventh. The lefty went six innings, allowing a run on four hits with a walk and nine strikeouts. He threw 105 pitches, 59 for strikes.

Update III: Albers fanned four in two scoreless innings and Koda Glover started the ninth by serving up a solo homer to Choo. Andrus then singled and stole second before Beltre walked. Mazara doubled off the wall in right, barely missing a three-run homer, to tie the game. Robinson Chrinos lofted what appeared to be the go-ahead sac fly to right, but a replay review requested by the Nats proved fruitful, erasing the run scored by pinch-runner Pete Kozma and turning it into a double play. But that was all for Glover, who gave way to Oliver Pérez. Odor struck out, but we head to the bottom of the ninth in a 3-3 tie.

Update IV: Pinch-hitter Stephen Drew doubled to lead off the ninth and Alex Claudio replaced Jose Leclerc. Pinch-hitter Matt Wieters moved Drew to third with a grounder to first and Wilmer Difo ran for Drew. Claudio fanned Brian Goodwin swinging and Turner bunted the ball down the third base line on a 1-1 pitch. As Claudio sprinted toward the ball, Difo broke for the plate then froze and was easily tagged out in a 1-5 fielder's choice. We're heading to extra innings knotted at 3-3.

Update V: Chrinos hit a three-run homer off Shawn Kelley in the 11th for a 6-3 Rangers lead. With two outs, pinch-hitter Joey Gallo doubled off the wall in right-center and Mazara was intentionally walked. Chrinos lofted a 2-2 pitch to left, Goodwin leaped at the wall, but it bounced off the flower bed and into the stands.

Update VI: It's a 6-3 final. Joe Ross made the final out pinch-hitting for Kelley, leading to speculation that something might be up with Ryan Zimmerman.
