The playoff newbies deliver (Nats win 3-2 in Game 1)

ST. LOUIS - These inexperienced Nationals seem to be faring just fine, huh? A half-inning after Ryan Mattheus gets out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam with just two pitches in his first career postseason appearance, pinch-hitter Tyler Moore delivers a two-out, two-run, go-ahead single in his first ever playoff at-bat. Mercy. Moore got to a 2-2 count against Cardinals lefty Marc Rzepczynski, got a fastball down in the zone and dropped it into right field. Michael Morse and Ian Desmond came around to score, giving the Nats a 3-2 lead in the eighth inning. After Jayson Werth struck out to end the frame, Moore jogged back to the dugout and got absolutely mobbed. He just delivered the basehit of his life, and the Nationals are six outs from a thrilling road win in Game 1 of the National League Division Series. Tyler Clippard now comes on to work the eighth. Update: Clippard worked around a throwing error by Ryan Zimmerman, getting Pete Kozma to pop up and Matt Carpenter to strike out looking to leave David Freese stranded in scoring position. We go to the ninth. Drew Storen warms. Update II: The Nationals have taken Game 1 of the NLDS in dramatic fashion. Moore gave them the lead in the top of the eighth, Clippard got three big outs and Drew Storen notched his first career postseason save, retiring the top of the Cardinals order in the ninth to close out a 3-2 win. Jordan Zimmermann will take the ball tomorrow afternoon with a chance to give the Nats a dominating 2-0 series lead heading back home.
