Trio of Nats continue to lead in final days of All-Star voting

They'll have to wait along with everyone else until All-Star roster are fully announced Sunday night, but based on voting results throughout the last two months, the Nationals sure look like they're going to be well-represented in Miami.

The final ballot update was released this afternoon by Major League Baseball, and Bryce Harper, Daniel Murphy and Ryan Zimmerman continue to lead their respective positions in voting, leaving each in position to earn the starting nod for the National League.

Harper continues to be the NL's overall leading vote-getter with 3,617,444, with the Rockies' Charlie Blackmon (3,115,730) and the Marlins' Marcell Ozuna (1,270,464) also in position to earn starting outfield spots. The Cubs' Jason Heyward, currently in fourth place, has received 1,241,194 votes, still in the race for a starting spot but not nearly close enough to threaten Harper.

Zimmerman continues to hang on to his lead at first base over Anthony Rizzo, though this remains up for grabs heading into the final days of balloting. Zimmerman now has received 1,728,607 votes, with Rizzo at 1,601,245. The Diamondbacks' Paul Goldschmidt (1,200,995) also lurks close behind in third place, with voting scheduled to end Thursday.

Though no other Nationals are threatening to crack the starting lineup, they do have a top-five vote-getter at every position. Anthony Rendon (779,468) ranks fourth at third base, Trea Turner (804,703) ranks fourth at shortstop and Matt Wieters (680,644) ranks fifth at catcher. Jayson Werth, currently on the disabled list, ranks 14th among outfielders with 540,609 votes.

All-Star pitchers will be selected by a combination of player votes and selections by NL manager Joe Maddon. Max Scherzer, who leads the league in ERA (2.09), strikeouts (145) and WHIP (0.808), is close to a lock at this point to make the team and would be a strong candidate to start the Midsummer Classic, given that his current schedule lines him up to start four days before the game at Marlins Park.

Stephen Strasburg, who is 8-2 with a 3.57 ERA and ranks in the NL's top-10 in wins, strikeouts and WHIP, is another candidate. So is Miami native Gio Gonzalez, who is 7-1 with a 2.96 ERA and ranks in the top 10 in wins and ERA.
