Washington Nationals reinstate Stephen Strasburg

The Washington Nationals returned from rehab assignment and reinstated right-handed pitcher Stephen Strasburg from the 10-day Injured List and optioned right-handed pitcher Kyle McGowin to Triple-A Rochester on Friday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Strasburg, 32, returns to the active roster after missing 31 games with right shoulder inflammation. He was placed on the 10-day Injured List on April 18 (retroactive to April 15). He made one rehab start with Triple-A Rochester, tossing 4.1 innings of two-hit, shutout ball on May 16. He struck out six batters and issued two walks. In two Major League starts this season, Strasburg is 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA and 11 strikeouts.

McGowin, 29, has pitched to a 4.15 ERA (4 ER/8.2 IP) with five strikeouts in eight appearances out of Washington's bullpen this season.
