What's on your Black Friday wish list for the Nats?

It's Black Friday, and that can only mean one thing: It's time to start crossing items off your holiday shopping list.

Far be it from us to try to tell you what you should be buying your significant other, your child or your other loved ones this year. But around here, we do like to put together wish lists for roster needs.

So let's think about what's on the Nationals' wish list this year. It's not the same kind of list they've put together in recent years. They don't have one or two specific holes they're trying to fill in order to help lift them to the top of the National League East, or carry them through October. No, this time around there are far more areas of need than can reasonably be filled in one offseason.

So let's approach this in a different manner. What could the Nats realistically look to do this offseason to improve their roster in the short term while continuing to position themselves for greater success in the long term?

Thumbnail image for Nats-Park-Grounds-Crew-sidebar.jpgThe priority here would seem to be pitching, both in the rotation and in the bullpen. The Nationals sure would benefit from a reliable starter who could eat up innings and take pressure off both the inexperienced members of their rotation and the veterans who are attempting to return either from injury or subpar performances.

They also could use an experienced late-inning arm or two, again taking pressure off less-accomplished relievers and perhaps helping lock down some late leads that, unfortunately, turned into gut-wrenching losses in 2021.

Are these kinds of moves going to magically transform the Nationals into NL East contenders in 2022? Probably not. But they would help bring the win total up from 65 and buy some time for more long-term pieces to the puzzle to emerge.

So here's your chance to chime in: What's on your wish list for the Nationals this Black Friday? And don't say Max Scherzer and Trea Turner. We try to deal in reality around here. Give us some viable options that could be acquired this winter.
