Winter Meetings: Day 1 comes and goes for Nationals

NASHVILLE - Day 1 of the Winter Meetings has come and gone after starting in a funny way. Once I was settled into the media room this morning, I received a text from my colleague Olivia Witherite saying she was lost in the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center.

Well, it was a funny morning for me at least.

On a day that was supposed to full of exciting news and roster moves, the Nationals remained quiet and the news from last night of closer Jonathan Papelbon filing a grievance against the club still lingered. General manager Mike Rizzo wouldn't talk about the grievance process, but he did say that the Nats were looking forward to having Papelbon close out games again.

He did however touch on the reports that the Nationals could land utility man Ben Zobrist and the possibility of moving infielder Yunel Escobar. So perhaps we're in for a more eventful Day 2? Stay tuned.

You can check out the video I shot today of Rizzo speaking with the media below. On a personal note, I also shot a video of Cal Ripken Jr., my childhood hero, after he was introduced as the new senior advisor to the commissioner on youth programs and outreach. So that was neat.

Meanwhile, in between all the video shooting and picture uploading, I found myself still amazed at the beauty of the Gaylord.

Check back tomorrow for all the latest from the Winter Meetings, and continue following along on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat (masnnationals)!

Now excuse me while I go find Olivia.
