Beginning next spring, two scholarships will be awarded in memory of Mike Flanagan, the former Orioles pitcher, coach, front office executive and MASN broadcaster who took his own life in August 2011. So far, according to a Facebook page dedicated to the effort, more than $5,000 has been raised to fund the scholarships.
One scholarship will be given to a graduating varsity baseball player at Manchester Memorial High School in Manchester, N.H., Flanagan's alma mater, who has progressed through...
Earlier in the offseason, the Orioles tied the Royals for the most Gold Glove Awards with three winners.
On Wednesday, the Birds stood alone in the majors with the most Silver Sluggers. Adam Jones, J.J. Hardy and Chris Davis all took home the hardware, marking the first time that three Orioles had ever earned the honor in the same season.
Another award was given to an Oriole yesterday, as Manny Machado was named the Orioles' 2013 Wilson Defensive Player of the Year.
Rumors, speculation and...
Saying Chris Davis had a standout season is an understatement.
The O's slugger started off strong, earning American League Player of the Month honors in April. He was later voted to his first All-Star game and participated in his first Home Run Derby while continuing to produce in the heart of the Orioles' lineup.
Thanks to 53 homers, yesterday Davis was awarded his first Silver Slugger Award. This week, we're throwin' it back to Davis' record-breaking performance.

The Boston Red Sox are the 2013 World Series champions. Now that the season is over, just one question comes to mind: Is it spring training yet?
With many eyes on the Red Sox and the Cardinals this week, there's a lot of news surrounding the Orioles that you may have missed.
Dave Wallace has been hired as the O's new pitching coach, taking the spot vacated by Rick Adair.
On Tuesday, the Orioles' defense was honored, as J.J. Hardy, Adam Jones and Manny Machado were all awarded Gold Gloves....
On Tuesday, three Orioles were named Gold Glove winners. Adam Jones was awarded his third, J.J. Hardy received his second and Manny Machado earned his first career Gold Glove.
To celebrate Machado's first Gold Glove, we're throwin' it back to what is arguably the play of the year.
I'm sure we all know which play I am referring to, so without further ado, relive this memorable moment in the video below.

Camden Yards is a gem, a rare baseball cathedral that blends classic, retro style with today's version of the national pastime. But its lush outfield grass and manicured infield don't happen by accident. They're the result of a year-round effort by head groundskeeper Nicole McFadyen and her talented grounds crew. Each month during this offseason, Orioles Buzz will check in with McFadyen to see what's happening on the field at Camden Yards as the grounds crew prepares for the 2014...
The World Series is two games in, and the Cardinals and Red Sox have each taken a game. Who do you have as the 2013 world champs?
Since your eyes may have been on postseason baseball this week, let's catch you up on all of the Orioles news that you may have missed.
The Birds have continued to search for a new pitching coach to replace Rick Adair.
With Jim Leyland retiring, skipper Buck Showalter moved up to third in the category of most wins by an active manager.
In addition, three...
With a cannon for an arm, Matt Wieters makes it very difficult for opposing runners. This past season, he caught 24 baserunners stealing, but in this play, he had a little bit of help.
And by a little bit, I mean a lot.
With Desmond Jennings looking to take second, Wieters threw the ball to the wrong side of the bag. Lucky for him, Alexi Casilla made a spectacular play to get the out. Watch the play below and make sure to check back every Thursday for more memorable moments from 2013.

Watch any postseason baseball this season? If not, you're seriously missing out on great pitching matchups, clutch hits and just overall fantastic baseball.
With the Orioles in the offseason and some playoff baseball being played, you may have missed some developing stories surrounding the O's this week, including Wednesday night's news that Rick Adair will not return as pitching coach.
Each Friday this offseason, I'll give you links to any stories you may have missed. Continue to check...
For as long as I remember, I've been intrigued by cemeteries. Not just the otherworldly aspects - which seem apropos now that Halloween is a couple of weeks away - but the intricate designs of the headstones and monuments. As a child, I can remember riding by local graveyards and being transfixed by the way the shadows of ornate obelisks and stately mausoleums reflected the moonlight. When my family moved next to Baltimore National Cemetery on the Baltimore City/Baltimore County line in 1984,...
With Mariano Rivera jogging to the mound to protect a 1-0 lead, fans at Yankee Stadium thought the Yanks had it in the bag.
Adam Jones thought otherwise.
Watch the video below to relive Jones' game-winner from July that sealed the sweep in New York. Also, be sure to check back every Thursday for more memorable moments from 2013.

On more than one occasion, Manny Machado has proven that he doesn't need a glove to make a spectacular play.
In this instance, the Orioles were trying to protect a one-run lead against Tampa Bay. With the ball bouncing toward him, the O's third baseman used his fingertips to get the crucial out in the ninth.
Watch Machado's amazing play below and make sure to check back every Thursday to relive more memorable moments from 2013.

You may already be counting down the days until opening day, but before we look forward, let's take a look back at some of the Orioles' greatest moments of the 2013 season.
Every Thursday, we'll be throwin' it back to an amazing play from the O's second straight winning season. And what better place to start than the beginning.
The Birds hosted the Twins for their 2013 home opener. In front of a sellout crowd, Chris Davis stepped to plate with the bases loaded in the eighth inning of a...
That stone-cold visage he displays in the dugout isn't the look on Buck Showalter's face every minute of every day. The Orioles manager may look serious as a heart attack during a game, but he has a heart of gold when it comes to kids.
So it's no surprise that Orioles manager Buck Showalter has partnered with KidsPeace, an organization that gives hope, help and healing to children, families and communities throughout the United States. Not every kid is lucky enough to get to spend an...
The Orioles and Red Sox wrap up the 2013 regular season with a three-game set at Camden Yards starting this evening. Both teams' regular season fates have been decided, but these remaining games aren't as meaningless as they might seem. (And I'm not talking about the opportunities that Chris Davis has to increase his team records for home runs and extra-base hits, although those matter, too.)
With one win, the O's could earn consecutive season series victories against Boston for the first...
With the Orioles officially eliminated from postseason contention, it comes as a surprise to some that the baseball playoffs will actually be watchable this October. Sure, it would have been great to see the O's back in the hunt for a World Series like in 2012, but playing five meaningless games at the end of the season sure beats playing 55 of them.
I've always fancied myself a baseball fan that roots for the Orioles, not an O's fan that watches baseball. The game comes first for me....
Stating that Jonathan Schoop had a good night would be an understatement.
As one of the Orioles' top prospects, Schoop was brought up in early September. Tonight, Buck Showalter mixed up the lineup, giving Schoop the start at second base and setting him up to play in his FIRST major league game.
From there, the firsts just kept on comin'.
In his FIRST major league at-bat, he got his FIRST hit, a line-drive single to center field.
In his third at-bat, Schoop blasted a no-doubter into...
With last night's loss, the Orioles are officially out of the 2013 playoff picture. Would it be wrong to call that a relief?
We've suspected this day was coming for a while. Last Friday's epic 18-inning loss to the Rays basically sealed the deal. That game had all the markings of a last stand and the Orioles, to their credit, did what they do: They fought hard. They simply didn't have an extra gear this time around.
To finally know that they won't be revisiting the postseason is indeed...
In Monday's series finale at Tampa Bay, Manny Machado suffered a gruesome knee injury while rounding first base. Immediately after being carted off the field in a stretcher, there was an outpouring of support for the O's third baseman.
Below are just some of the many tweets from Machado's peers in reaction to his injury.
Best wishes out to Manny today for that terrible injury. Get well soon man!— Mike Trout (@Trouty20) September 23, 2013
Prayers up for Manny Machado— Torrey...
There's no crying in baseball - unless, of course, you're an Orioles fan who watched Manny Machado go down Monday at Tropicana Field. Then crying is completely acceptable. I'm OK admitting that my eyes got a little misty as I watched the Birds' young phenom get carted off the field on a stretcher after twisting his leg on first base. I didn't take the injury well, I felt sick to my stomach watching the replays and sat in silence, unsure how I should react as the game continued.
After it...
