A few off-day notes

The Rangers put pitcher Scott Feldman on waivers for the purpose of outrighting him to Triple-A Round Rock. He'd have to clear, of course, before the Rangers could do it. The Orioles don't appear to have much interest in Feldman despite their need for another starter in an unproductive rotation. I wouldn't say their level is zero, but it's not much higher. Feldman is expected to clear later this afternoon and be outrighted. He's coming off microfracture knee surgery and is 3-1 with a 4.17 ERA in 10 minor league starts - two in the Texas League and eight in the Pacific Coast League. Feldman was 7-11 with a 5.48 ERA in 29 games (22 starts) for the Rangers last season. Feldman's contract calls for him to make $4.4 million this season and $6.5 million next year. It also includes an option for 2013. Any team claiming him would inherit it. I don't expect it to be the Orioles. Also, the Orioles will hold their 25th annual food drive this weekend at Camden Yards. The Orioles Wives and Orioles Advocates will collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations from fans at each entrance beginning on Friday, from the time gates open until the middle of the second inning. Items most needed at this time, according to the Maryland Food Bank, are peanut butter, canned chicken, canned tuna, oatmeal, breakfast cereals and canned fruits and vegetables. Donations will benefit soup kitchens, food pantries and emergency shelters throughout Maryland. During last year's Food Drive, more than 2,200 pounds of food and $19,500 in cash donations were collected. For more information, call 888-848-BIRD or visit www.oriolesreach.com. And finally, Sports Legends Museum will host an exclusive event with University of Maryland football coach Randy Edsall, on Monday, Aug. 1. "An Evening with Randy Edsall" will begin at 5:30 p.m. and include a program surrounding Edsall's career and his plans for the Maryland football program and upcoming season. There will be a meet and greet cocktail reception prior to the program. The event is free to current Legends Club members, and $50 for non-members, all of which includes the cocktail reception, program, admission to the museum's exhibits and parking.
